Throughout the tournament, the Dawsonville-based teams came away with a combined 19-2 record with the only two losses coming in the championship games for the varsity boys and girls.
“Seeing the teams compete and win as much as they did this weekend was invigorating,” Tribe athletic director Dustin Gillespie said. “This program is young and to be able to compete and succeed builds confidence in the players and authenticity in the program.”

The middle school boys and girls took home the crown for their respective championships. Abigail Nix was named the tournament MVP for the middle school girls, while Issac Bumburyak won the tournament MVP on the boys side.
The junior varsity boys team also won its tournament, as Judson Blanco took home tournament MVP honors. “We can’t rely only on this weekend to say we are finally successful, but it’s a hump in the road that pushes us towards the goal of being productive at getting better and staying competitive,” Gillespie said.
Although both varsity teams made it to the championship, they both fell in the title games. Chloe Harmon and Moses Angle were recognized for their stellar play throughout the day, winning all-tournament awards.
Despite the teams’ successes, Gillespie says they’re still improving upon the message to the team.
“Our theme this season is to ‘Train yourself in godliness,’” he said. “We trained and are training to be better at basketball, and we are training to be a godly program.”
